Welcome to Art of Entanglement – a Monterey martial arts academy and training facility for any and everyone! We are a family-run, family-oriented community that looks out for each other. Our students and instructors have created a family bond, one that can’t break. Our community trains together – and sticks together, even off the mats. It is truly a special training family. This carries over to the mats, where everyone brings the best out of each other and become their best selves in and out of the academy. All of this is complemented by a top-tier facility. Our School
What is martial arts? In the simplest terms, it’s a battle with two people entangled with one another. Hence, our martial arts academy was named Art of Entanglement. And we truly teach the art. Most gyms teach moves. We track your evolution. We provide students 1-on-1 training, break down movements, and continuously keep notes and track progress. Our technical expertise is complemented by our strong passion for Jiu-Jitsu. Every day we bring in a competitive energy to make everyone better, providing students constructive criticism while keeping them motivated to be great. All of our work to make students better in Jiu-Jitsu classes would mean nothing without our culture. Even while we push you near your limit, we always have your back. Your Jiu-Jitsu training is about your progress, not ours. Whatever you need, we are here to help make the most out of the experience!
History
Martial arts was never the plan for owner Chris Moreno. The 2024 National Gold medalist originally came to America in 2014 from Venezuela for college. Realizing it wasn’t for him, he tried Jiu-Jitsu. He was instantly hooked. Less than a year into training, Chris began teaching kids Jiu-Jitsu, fully embracing the art. After teaching and medaling in competitions for years and realizing a lack of strong Jiu-Jitsu in the area, Chris opened his own martial arts academy in 2024. Since our opening, Art of Entanglement has grown in community as well as quality. As more students have joined, the academy has received upgrades, including our conditioning room featuring a sauna and cold plunge. We have also added a FREE Saturday class for Law Enforcement and First Responders! Our goal is to continue to grow and help others through Jiu-Jitsu.
